It is getting to the point that most people have minor complains, but nothing really big. At the moment I've been sending the digest out about once a day or so. Either tomorrow (Weds) or Thursday I'll start sending out enough digests to clear the queue each day. Thanks for your patience getting the digest back online! I'm the owner of MacTools (pre MacTools Pro) and was wondering if Norton Utilities was now the only game in town for diagnostics and repair. I know that Symantec 'absorbed' MacTools but I don't know of any competition that has arisen to give users a choice for their money. Can anyone out there guide me? I feel that I'm falling behind the times but I'm just not sure that Norton Utilities is the future. Perhaps it is and I'm uncecessarily concerned. One other point. With my MacTools, I am unable to make an Emergency Disk because I get the message that there is not enough space on a 1.4mb floppy. I run 7.5.3 on an LC520 with 20 mb Ram. It does Gantt charts with calendars, milestones, actual/projected, timelines, etc. Exports data to Excel, FileMaker, etc. It defaults to a small window on opening, but the window can be dragged larger. And is only B&W. Otherwise, it seems to work fine. It was copyright 1987-1990 but I tested it on a IIvx (System 7.1) and a 578 (System 7.5). When I bought my Powerbook 540c 2nd hand, I got it together with the whole Microsoft Office package (including disks, manuals - not a "forgot to erase" copy). All MAcs in the office have Word 6.01, as do the PCs (one is a Win95, it uses the Word95 version). Hirschberg" Subject: system 7.6, a 5300cs and PCethernet card problems Hello, I have an Eigerlab's PCMCIA card that I bought from MacMall for my 5300cs/24/750. Macmall substituted these cards as their 'house brand' for Asante cards when we ordered last summer. First of all if you have one of these cards, I am sorry for you. They have been nothing but trouble for months. Even Macmall has dropped selling them. Eigerlabs was too embarassed to put their name on them. The technical support people have no macintosh experience and their driver software is flawed at best. Okay so I am turning to you for help. The driver disk that came with this card only installs crrectly when using classic appletalk. So what I had to do in the past is run classic appletalk with system 7.5.5 and then swich back to open transport and then it would work. If I upgrade to system 7.6 and then 7.6.1 things work for a while but sooner or later I get a crash when ethernet loads. What I would like to do is install system 7.6 and then upgrade to system 7.6.1 directly. Since classic appletalk is not supported though I can not install my ethernet card software. Doesn't apple have any ethernet support for pcmcia cards? After instalation the only choices I have with appletalk is IRTALK and modem/printer port? I should have a choice of alternate ethernet. The Eigerlabs software has 4 files: ehtertalk phase 2, network, pccard ethernet driver, pc card ethernet extension. Just instaling the last 2 in the extensions folder is enough to get the card recognized by my mac (no window on start up that says the correct pccard software is not installed), but still there is no alternate ethernet option in apple talk. If anone has more info or a solution I would appreciate hearing from you. PCMCIA's should all be the same right? If anyone has a driver for a PCMCIA card that works with system 7.6.1 I would appreciate giving it a try.
