The tools include Test Connectivity (Ping), Trace Route, Name Server Lookup, Who Is, Finger, Monitor, TCP Info, Address Scan, and Subnet Calculator. With IPNetMonitor, you can see how the Internet is working, monitor the flow of data to and from your computer, and trace the route by which the data is flowing. This gives the user the information to both optimize internet service and diagnose problems. Developed by Hussam A. Dandashli. 11/01/97 Truss 6 is an application that explores the behavior of planar trusses under external loading. It builds, analyzes, and displays the internal forces in the members using color intensities to denote force values. This new version replaces version 5.x. It will run on any Mac (PPC and 68k) with 68020 or better processor and the QuickTime extension installed to be able to produce movies of a car traveling over the truss. New in version 6.0.2 * Minor update relating to showing the correct version of the application in the About Application... menu and the truss window title. New in version 6.0.1 * The application was rewritten in C++ using Symantec C++ visual architecture. * Balloon help is enabled. * Shortcut buttons and the color scale reside on floating pallets. * Truss colors as well as background and foreground colors can be selected by the user. * Pattern display has been disabled. Only colors are available. * The animation of the car traveling over the truss is done in a separate window. * The entire truss can be moved with the mouse. * Applied nodal forces can be assigned by double-clicking a node.. * The full version can be unlocked with a serial number instead of waiting for a full version. * Some menu items were rearranged, and some were dropped altogether. * When printing, the truss will be centered and resized to fit on one page. * The console window was dropped. The forces text can be exported to a file when needed. * Automatic snap to grid functionality has been added. * Method of sections has been dropped since the truss is analyzed automatically. Only the method of joints will be used to display joint and/or supports free body diagrams. This demo version is restricted to 4 joints, can build but cannot solve trusses. I am trying to find out if there is a way to trick a program into thinking the monitor is set to a specific color depth. The video card I have supports from b/w to 256 colors, plus millions, and some programs won't operate without thousands. There is no choice for thousands, so if i can somehow force the program to operate in millions, I'd be grateful to know how. Some programs give a 'run anyway' option, the ones I'm trying quit because it's set different and they can't change it. I have a strange problem with MacOS 8.0. Ever since I installed the system, I sometimes get a strange alert from the finder saying something like: "Not enough memory to fulfill the request. Quit applications to free memory". This alert normally appear when other applications are in the foreground. And I always have plenty of free RAM. It seems like what happens is that an application asks the system about some extra temporary memory and for some reason the system won't approve of the request although there are plenty of free RAM. ANy ideas of how to fix this? (it also remembers your last _program_ selection order!) it stores these as resources (editable with ResEdit) sorted by an ID# associated with a particular cd. there is the program _CD Coyote_ (on the november macaddict cd #15) that will help you manage the prefs file, and will also merge several preference files into one, allowing you & your friends to share. note that sometimes two cd's containing the same recording will have different id #'s, so just because a friend has the same cd, that doesn't necessarily mean AppleCD Audio Player will recognize it as the same. this is a result of the many different pressings and the limited information available from most audio cds. so, at the least you can enter in all of your own cd collection and save a backup of the prefs file. that is what i have done, although i took my time doing it for obvious reasons. :) ps: about the AppleCD Audio Player (for those who didn't know.) turn on _balloon help_ (? menu) and point to the various controls to see their command key equivalents. this might be in the appleguide doc as well.... hope this helps... -- george s stripling jr ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Nov 1997 16:41:51 -0500 From: gtlewis@eastman.com Subject: ClubMac inquiry? I've been a happy user of a "Mouse Systems" all-optical mouse now for about six years. No cleaning, no skipping, no sticking, no jumping; standard ADB connection. About the only disadvantage is that you have to use an optical mouse pad, so you don't get to keep any of the cool/clever/cute pads that keep showing up in the mail. Check out their WEB page at .
