Subject: [*] Kaleido-NeXT 1.2 Color Scheme
Sent: Kaleido-NeXT
Hello, here is the latest version of my Kaledioscope color scheme
called "Kaleido-NeXT". Kaleido-NeXT is based on the NeXT style of
windows, and it included icons, patterns, and more!
Changes in this version include:
Optimized for Mac OS 8 and Kaleidoscope 1.8, including patched
icons, patched pop-up windows, and improved scroll bars and thumbs.
Two new desktop patterns
A new version of the scheme called "Black" which creates a black
menu bar, with grey menus. This is more of an experiment in trying to
get NeXT-like menus without using a WDEF.
Thanks!

Pinstripe has additional resources for Kaleidoscope 1.8, including larger

Buzzword Bingo is a HyperCard stack that generates random Bingo cards from
a list of words either typed in by the user or imported from a text file.
I suppose this stack could be used to generate legitmate Bingo cards, but
it would not be half the fun of generating Buzzword Bingo Cards to be used
at staff meetings! Thanks to Dilbert for the inspiration for this stack...
I hope you enjoy it and if you find any problems with it or have

It should run on HyperCard 2.0 and later. This can be distributed on any
InfoMac CD ROM. Others, please contact me for permission.
This is version 1.9, which adds the ability to make sure you only use the
same term once on a card and fixes a bug in 1.8 which caused printing not
to work, which was rather inconvenient.... ;-).

Cannons and Castles 2.0.2
(C) 1997 by Andy Lyttle
This is a Macintosh port of an Apple II game called Cannons and Castles.
It's a two-player game; each player gets a castle on either side of a hill
and must try to blow up the other player by typing in the angle and
velocity of their shot. Version 2.0 added color, more stability, the
ability to save games, Balloon Help, and several other features.
Versions 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 fix bugs that caused the game to be unplayable on
machines running System 6 and color not to be recognized on some newer
PowerMacs, and make a few other minor improvements.
Cannons and Castles 2.0.2 is Shareware; you may use it for 30 days, after
which time I ask that you pay the $10 fee.
Cannons and Castles requires HyperCard 2.2 or higher, or the HyperCard
Player 2.2 or higher. HyperCard 2.2 requires System 6.0.5 or higher.

CDFinder 2.0
CDFinder catalogs CD-ROMs, ZIPs, floppies, SyQuests, and everything else that
turns (even your file server..) and allows you to search for anything in those
catalog files.
It is very fast, supports drag&drop, is PowerPC native (but also fast on any
other Mac with at least a 68020 CPU), and is trilingual
(English/German/French).
CDFinder is shareware (15 US$ for a single user license) and in Germany already
quite popular.
New features in CDFinder 2.0:
- The interface design is now similar to MacOS 8.1. (looks really cool!)
- It is possible to create catalog folders to sort, group, and organize
catalogs.
- Windows can finally be printed.
- Finding a name is about 40% faster
- Some more minor enhancements and bug fixes.
Give it a try!

Subject: [*] ConvertMachine 1.2v1J - Japanese Version
This is the Japanese version of the ConvertMachine package.
ConvertMachine is a batch processing utility to convert sound format files
to a desired type. This means it performs one or more of the following
without user interaction: decompression, resampling (sample rate
conversion), mixing (stereo to mono) and compression.
You don't need to worry about what format the file is in; all you specify
is the desired output format.
Finder Sound files (sfil), AIFF files, WAVE files, AU Mu-law and linear,
QuickTime Audio (Movies) and Sound Designer II files can be freely
converted.
You can save your popular Settings under as a menu item or as a separate
Settings file. The common web formats are flagged and ready to use as
defaults, such as audio/basic mono 8kHz mu-law.
After conversion files can be automatically sent to SoundMachine for playing.
It needs at least QuickTime 2.1 and Apple's Sound Manager 3.1 or later. If
you have installed System 7.5.3 then, no worries, you have these. If you
want to get these or later extensions visit Apple's web site (grab QuickTime
2.5 which includes Sound Manager 3.2.1).
This version fixes a minor problem with the SoundDesigner II sub-menu display.

Subject: [*] Mac Tcl/Tk 8.0p2
This is the latest release of the Tcl/Tk scripting language for the
iMacintosh. It is a high level scripting language, much like
AppleScript, Perl and Python. Is provides a powerful cross-platform
scripting & GUI development toolkit. Here, for instance, is the
canonical "Hello World" program written in Tcl/Tk:
button .b1 -text "Hello World" -command exit
pack .b1
The language is fully extensible from C, so that you can implement your
own commands with ease. And it is also embeddable, so you can use it as
a control language for your applications.
The 8.0 version adds a new compiler, which improves execution by as much
as 10x over the Tk4.2. The Macintosh release also has resource editing
commands, an extension to run AppleScripts from within Tcl/Tk, and a full
Macintosh Native Look-and-Feel. It supersedes the Tk4.2 version.

* What is it?
Saving Face lets you view and create X-Face headers, which are
encoded 48 x 48 bitmaps used by mail and news users to contain
a picture of their face, or logo of their home insitution.
* What use is that? No Mac mail display X-Face headers.
MacSOUP and MT-NewsWatcher display X-Face headers. A number
of UNIX mail and news readers display them.
* Basic intro
Make a 48 x 48 bitmap in your favourite graphics editor
(e.g. as a ResEdit 'cicn', in Photoshop or whatever). Copy
it from that application. Fire up 'Saving Face'. Do 'New'
to make a new window. Paste in the bitmap. You can hold down
the option key on pasting to scale the image to the window.
Do a 'Save as...' and specify a file name. Open up the resulting
file with a text editor, and copy out the text. It should look
something
like:

Keeping track of those fonts can be a chore, but actually knowing what each font
looks like can be a real nightmare. Simple Font displays a list of all

text in
that typeface. This will help you to choose the font that best suits your needs

Subject: [*] Verbs & Nouns 1.8.3 - foreign language learning
Here is the new version of the 'Verbs and Nouns' application - 1.8.3
'Verbs & Nouns' is an application for practising inflection, translation
and pronunciation at the level of single words. Features include the
opportunity to do inflection exercises, and translation exercises in
both directions; to record and play sound for single words; and to do
exercises based on sound. The program keeps a record of exercises, and
identifies the words that the student has difficulty with. Along with
the program, you need a module for the target language concerned. The
program can also be used as an authoring tool to write your own modules
of inflected words for any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator'
simplifies the addition of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the
modules to be used as bilingual dictionaries.
Ready-made modules are already available for certain languages. You can
