This is a borad subject and is actually best declared within a working

good but so is using something like NNTP.

man pages, online manuals for commands and programs
info pages, same thing - replacing man within a GNU environment
HOWTO, usually found in /usr/doc/HOWTO but main site is
http://www.linuxdoc.org

--help and -help are command specific and do not always work.
